BreezeLeave
Comparison

You don't need an entire HR suite just to track time off

BambooHR is a solid all-in-one HR platform. If leave management is your main pain point, a focused tool can solve it faster and at a lower price.

Reviewed: 2026-05-13. BambooHR's marketing site returned a 403 during our last revalidation attempt, so plan inclusions and pricing here may lag the vendor's current packaging. Always check the BambooHR website for current details before comparing.

BambooHR is a reasonable product. It handles hiring, onboarding, payroll, performance reviews, and time-off tracking. If you need all of that in one place, it might be exactly what you're looking for.

Many small teams sign up for BambooHR because they just need a better way to manage leave requests. They end up paying for a full HR suite when all they wanted was a shared calendar, an approval flow, and a Slack notification when someone's out.

BreezeLeave is built for that case. It handles leave management for modern, distributed teams and stops there.

The pricing reality

BambooHR doesn't publish pricing on their website. You have to talk to sales to get a quote, and our last public-data check returned a 403, so we can't confirm current numbers. Historically, plans have started around $6 to $8 per employee per month before add-ons like performance management or benefits tracking. Confirm the current numbers on the BambooHR pricing page before you compare.

That can be fair if you use the full suite. If you signed up primarily to manage PTO, it's a lot of money for a feature a focused tool can handle at a fraction of the cost. See the BreezeLeave pricing page for our current per-user rates.

BreezeLeave is free for teams up to 10 people. Larger teams pay a flat per-user rate with no sales calls and no custom quotes.

What BreezeLeave does better for leave

For leave management specifically, BreezeLeave covers a few areas where the BambooHR module is thinner or missing:

  • Native Slack and Microsoft Teams integration. Submit requests, get approvals, and receive daily "who's away" alerts inside the tools the team already uses. Confirm BambooHR's current Slack scope on their vendor marketplace listing.
  • Multi-country leave policies out of the box. Different public holidays, leave allowances, and policies per country without add-ons or manual workarounds.
  • Auto-approval rules. Set conditions so certain leave types auto-approve. Sick days under three days, or requests submitted more than two weeks in advance. Less busywork for managers, faster answers for employees.
  • Faster setup. Most teams are running in about 10 minutes. No onboarding calls, no implementation project, no waiting for someone to configure your account.
  • One reason to be in the app. Everything is about leave management, so people find what they need quickly.

Pro tip

If your team uses Slack heavily, connect both channels: one for leave requests and approvals, and another for daily "who's away" notifications. It cuts down on "is Sarah in today?" messages almost overnight.

Best fit: pick BambooHR if

BreezeLeave does not replace BambooHR's full HR scope. Here is where BambooHR is the right call:

  • You need a full HR suite. Applicant tracking, onboarding, employee databases, org charts, and performance reviews all in one place. BreezeLeave is leave management only.
  • Payroll sits at the center of your stack. BambooHR connects to payroll providers and can run payroll directly in some markets. If syncing time-off data with payroll is critical, that's a real advantage.
  • You need HR analytics beyond leave. Workforce reporting, headcount trends, and demographic breakdowns across HR functions. BreezeLeave's reporting focuses on leave data.
  • You want a long-established HR vendor. BambooHR has been around since 2008 with a wide integration catalog.

Best fit: pick BreezeLeave if

BreezeLeave tends to be the better fit when:

  • You run a small or mid-size team (5 to 100 people) that needs leave tracking, not a full HRIS.
  • Your team lives in Slack or Microsoft Teams and you want leave management embedded in chat, not in a separate portal.
  • You span multiple countries and need different holiday calendars and policies without paying enterprise prices.
  • You already have an HR tool for hiring and payroll but want something better for time off specifically.
  • You're a budget-conscious startup that wants a free or low-cost starting point.

Pro tip

Many teams use BreezeLeave alongside their existing HR platform. You don't have to replace everything. Just swap the leave module for something that fits your team's chat-first workflow.

Switching from BambooHR for leave only

If you're using BambooHR today and want to move leave management to BreezeLeave, here's what the process looks like:

  1. Sign up for free. Create your BreezeLeave account and invite your team. About 10 minutes.
  2. Set up leave policies. Configure leave types, allowances, and country-specific holidays.
  3. Connect Slack or Teams. Link your channels so requests and notifications flow through the tools people already use.
  4. Import existing balances. Enter current leave balances per employee so you start from the right numbers.
  5. Turn off BambooHR's time-off module. Once everyone's comfortable, stop using BambooHR for leave (or cancel it if leave was the main reason you had it).

The migration usually takes less than a day. No CSV wrangling, no consultants.
